Clad in a pair of black leather pants, Kim Kardashian received her first bitcoin last night at the City of Hope Charity Poker Tournament. The charity event was presented by the Forum and City of Hope’s Future Hope Committee to raise funds for the nonprofit clinical research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.

Kim along with Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner hosted a table. And, with 114 million followers watching, Kim posted a picture of an ornate, physical bitcoin with the caption, “We’ve moved onto bitcoin.”

This news does not exactly up the ante for bitcoin or cryptocurrency as a whole, but Kim Kardashian is now the most famous person to own the currency. And, to be fair, Kanye West has made some vague and cryptic tweets about cryptocurrency, but did say this in a May interview:

“That was the moment when I wanted to use Bitcoin, when I saw [former slave] Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. It’s like when you see all the slave movies, it’s like why you gotta keep reminding us about slavery. Why don’t you put Michael Jordan on the $20 bill?”

However, later in the night, Kardashian actually took a picture with blockchain entrepreneur, Michael Roszak.

This is not the first time that Roszak made a connection between cryptos and the Kardashian family. In fact, he also mentioned them during a conference at Tedx San Francisco. The conference covered design, tech, and entertainment, and during his presentation, Roszak displayed the image of KardashianCoin. The point of this was to explain how every artist, brand, or tribe can successfully tokenize their economy if they so desire.

No doubt, Roszak is a good source of information on cryptocurrencies and he expects new networks will evolve from the current market and that their worth will eventually be measured in trillions of dollars. And, various crypto enthusiasts, coin holders, and the crypto community, in general, have welcomed Roszak’s decision to gift Kim Kardashian with Bitcoin. While not many of them are actually fans and followers of the Kardashian family, they still recognize their influence

This move will bring eyes to the space and could foster an education on the technology to an audience that was in the dark prior. In the best of all possible worlds, Roszak’s move might bring thousands of new coin traders and crypto investors to the market, which is definitely something that cryptos desperately need right now.
